Johns River Oysters are started in a local hatchery in the Damariscotta River.  When the Oysters reach 6 months age, Oyster farmer Dave Cheney transplants them to his 4 acre Oyster beds in Johns River.  When mature (2-2.5 years), the oysters are diver-harvested.  Dave believes that the Oysters grow fast and strong in the Damariscotta River and the ‘finishing’ in the Johns River creates a special taste due to the water makeup and proximity to fresh water streams  and the ocean.

Large, briny, plump and refreshing are traits of these beautiful green tinted Oysters .
